March 2015 Spring IL smallies

BAM.  Great to finally get the drift boat out and scout some new water… and bonus… get a few smallies to eat.   Gidzo got to tag along and was a champion: 4 hr float 38 degrees.  Not bad for a 5 year old.  Proud Dad.

March 2015 Tarpon fishing Key West

Some guy named Steve texted these photos with this message, "It was epic. Hooked six, only got three to the boat smallest one (in photo) was 80lbs. Largest to the boat was 110.  Broke off on a 120lbs.  Fish were everywhere schools and singles."  He also, crushed some snook and reds kayak fishing off captiva island.  Seeing this pick pushed me into a zillow binge dreaming about the FL keys.

2015 NOLA redemption

I tend to overuse the word epic.  In this case the word works… the fishing was truly epic and felt like sweet redemption in follow up to my only other trip to NOLA back in Dec of 2013 when the weather took a you know what on our trip and I couldn't get a single fish to eat.  Feel very very very lucky to have secured a random single day this past Feb that happened to line up with IDEAL conditions on the marsh.  Doug Henderson was on it, he delivered big time.  He had us on fish all day long.  No shortage of chances… most were laid up, some active / cruising the shore line.  All extremely compliant and wiling to absolutely obliterate the fly when it got inside their personal "I'm going to kill/eat this now" space.  Most ate purple & black clouser type patterns, but a few on topwater poppers.  We landed 15 or so fish, hooked a few more and didn't come in.  Most in the 15 pound range.  A few around or just over 20lbs.  We saw and cast to a handful of fish in the 25lb+ range one that Doug believed was pushing 30lbs.  No luck with any of the bigger boys tho…. which is perfectly fine because it cements the necessity to return for more.   Love NOLA.  Love red fishing.  Love the beauty of the Louisiana marsh.  Love that we fished all day and didn't see another flats boat.   Can't wait to get back.

Rivers F and C northern Wisconsin August 2014

Nothing better than escaping down a few rivers in the middle of summer with a few good friends… We explored some new water: rivers F and C (and mostly learned what not to float again) but did land a few nice smallies (Ben's was a pig) and Steveo got a musky.  Not a bad huntsman spider.  Look forward to exploring other sections of F and C.

River M June 2014

Dug these photos up from a float down the river m last summer.  Adopted this turtle for the day…  had some near death 3 on 3 yard world cup drunken soccer.  The fishing was mediocre at best with moments of isolated glory… no huge fish, and not very many but still a great trip.  Though I think Bart swore he'd never fish the river M again…
